Avoiding problems with posturing

Whilst any gas remains in your eye, you must not fly in an aeroplane or travel to high altitude as this can cause the bubble to expand inside your eye, increasing the eye pressure in your eye go up and causing significant harm as well as pain.

For similar reasons, you must inform the anaesthetist that there is gas in your eye before any general anaesthetic.

Make sure that you wear the shield provided when sleeping. This will prevent inadvertent pressure on the eye and stop you rubbing your eye when asleep.

When posturing with your arms in front of you, ensure that you do not rest the inside area of your elbow on an unpadded area for long as it is possible to injure the nerve ("funny bone") by leaning on it for prolonged periods.

Use the 10 minutes you have off every hour to stretch, walk and do some gentle neck and shoulder rotations. There is no advantage to being a martyr and going without these breaks as sitting for long periods of time may lead to problems with deep vein thrombosis, a stiff upper body and make it more difficult to posture for the required period.
